Florence Pugh acknowledged the criticism she faced for wearing a transparent Valentino gown last year.
Embracing her body without reservation, Florence Pugh exudes confidence in her own skin.
In an interview featured in Elle Magazine’s October edition, the Black Widow actress playfully mentioned that she’s unafraid to showcase her skin, asserting, “I’m not trying to conceal the cellulite on my thigh.”
Renowned for her bold red carpet choices, Pugh recently embraced her body in a different context, baring it all for a scene in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which was released last month.
“I express myself openly about my body because I have no intention of hiding the cellulite on my thigh or the softness between my arm and my chest: I prefer to be transparent,” explained the actress.
Reflecting on her journey, she candidly shared, “The most unsettling aspect for me is the instances when people have taken issue with me revealing ‘too much’ of myself.”
In July of the previous year, Pugh garnered attention when she sported a daring Valentino gown at the brand’s Haute Couture show in Rome, revealing a glimpse of her nipple. Addressing the ensuing criticism, she remarked, “It’s the freedom that makes people uncomfortable—my comfort and happiness. For a considerable time, criticizing women’s bodies has been an effective means of control.”
Observing the current cultural climate, Pugh noted, “We’re currently in a phase where many people are saying, ‘I don’t care.’ Regrettably, our society has developed such an apprehension towards the human body that we can’t even look at my two modest, adorable nipples beneath fabric without sexualizing them.”
She emphasized the importance of expanding perspectives, stating, “We must consistently remind everyone that women’s bodies exist for more than one reason.”
