The caretaker Prime Minister has plans to undertake trips to three countries within the coming month
Kakar is set to represent Pakistan and engage with global leaders on the fringes of the summit, with meetings lined up with prominent figures such as UN Secretary-General Guterres and John Kerry.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has received an invitation from the Kenyan government to participate in the Africa Climate Summit (ACS), scheduled for September 4-6.
Pakistan’s interim Prime Minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, will serve as the representative for Pakistan, engaging with approximately a dozen prominent world leaders on the sidelines of the summit. Notable figures include United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, former US Secretary of State John Kerry, the special presidential envoy for climate, and several other leaders.
Joining the prime minister’s delegation are caretaker federal ministers Ahmad Irfan Aslam, Jaleel Abbas Jilani, Murtaza Solangi, Sami Saeed, and Foreign Secretary Dr. Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi. Prior to his attendance in Nairobi, it is anticipated that Prime Minister Kakar will make a brief visit to Saudi Arabia. Subsequently, he will proceed to the United States to participate in the UN General Assembly summit in New York from September 18 to 22.
Insiders with diplomatic insight have disclosed that during the ACS, African leaders will be urged to make ambitious pledges and commitments aimed at adopting a “Pledging and Commitment Framework.” The ACS is structured around the theme “Driving Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World.”
The inaugural Africa Climate Summit is a collaborative effort between the African Union Commission and Kenya.
According to sources, the summit is poised to establish a pathway to a novel global financial arrangement, encompassing “at scale” and purpose-driven financing instruments and products tailored to specific growth objectives. The event will draw attendance from African heads of state and government, international leaders, development partners, civil society organizations, researchers, academia, and pertinent stakeholders, among others.
