Anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan, who had been missing for nearly five months, has been successfully recovered and returned to his home safely, as confirmed by District Police Officer Sialkot, Hassan Iqbal, in a statement on Monday.
The journalist was apprehended on May 11 at Sialkot Airport under the 3MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) after nationwide protests erupted on May 9, following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan from the Islamabad High Court.
After his release from the district jail on May 12, Riaz departed in a private vehicle. On May 15, the Lahore High Court (LHC) was informed that he had been released from jail after providing a written undertaking.
Following a substantial period of his disappearance, the Lahore High Court granted the Punjab police chief a final opportunity on September 20 to locate Riaz by September 26.
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Sialkot police announced, “Journalist/anchor Mr. Imran Riaz Khan has been safely recovered and is now reunited with his family.”
Riaz’s attorney, in a corresponding X post, expressed, “By the special blessing, grace, and mercy of God, I have brought my prince back.”
He continued, “It was a lengthy and arduous journey due to numerous challenges, the final understanding of the situation, a vulnerable judiciary, and the existing limitations of our legal system.”
The attorney concluded, “Despite the indescribable circumstances, Almighty Allah has shown us this auspicious day. We are overwhelmed with gratitude at this moment.”
