On numerous occasions, Russia has advocated for negotiations to resolve the conflict, a situation that could jeopardize its burgeoning relationship with Iran.
Russia is planning to convene another UN Security Council meeting to address the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the conflict between Israel and the militant group Hamas. Russia held a meeting on the same topic earlier in the week, but their proposed ceasefire resolution was unsuccessful due to opposition from four council members, including the United States, which criticized the draft for not mentioning Hamas.
Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s deputy permanent representative to the UN, stated that they would organize a new Security Council meeting, but the specific date was not mentioned. He also indicated uncertainty about when a resolution might be proposed.
Russia has been advocating for talks to end the conflict, which has created challenges for its relationships with Iran and Israel. President Vladimir Putin has engaged in discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as Iranian and Arab leaders, with the aim of initiating peace talks.
