Erling Haaland has made history by breaking Andy Cole’s record as the fastest player to reach 50 goals in the Premier League, achieving this milestone in just 48 games after scoring the opening goal against Liverpool.

Having joined Manchester City for £51 million in 2022, the Norwegian sensation reached the 50-goal mark in the league with a well-executed strike against Liverpool, surpassing Andy Cole’s longstanding record of 65 goals in 48 league games.

At 23 years old, Haaland currently leads a group of top attackers, with Mohammed Salah (72), Fernando Torres (68), Ruud van Nistelrooy (68), and Alan Shearer (66) as his closest competitors.

Finishing the league season with an impressive 36 goals, Haaland not only contributed to the Treble-winning team but also made a significant impact in the Champions League, playing 11 games and scoring 12 goals.

In a crucial match between Pep Guardiola’s team and Liverpool at the Etihad, Haaland provided the lead. Nathan Ake’s precision set-up found Haaland on the edge of the box, where he displayed composure and skill to slip past Alisson with a decisive finish.

While Haaland’s record-breaking achievement includes penalties, a distinction from Andy Cole’s record, Manchester City fans are reveling in the striker’s dominance of the Premier League.

Looking ahead, Haaland’s next goal is likely to be breaking the record for the fastest player to reach 100 goals in the Premier League, currently held by the league’s all-time leading scorer, Alan Shearer, who achieved the century in just 124 games.

Despite Liverpool ultimately securing a draw against Manchester City, thanks to Trent Alexander-Arnold, Haaland’s remarkable feat continues to captivate fans and set high expectations for his future performances.
