The football star found himself in an uncomfortable situation following Al-Nassr’s 3-0 loss to Al-Hilal.
After Al-Nassr’s 3-0 defeat against Al-Hilal at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, football star Cristiano Ronaldo faced an awkward situation when fans taunted him with “Messi, Messi” chants. Undeterred, Ronaldo maintained his composure and responded to the critics by blowing “flying kisses” while walking back to the pavilion.
The loss widened the gap between Al-Nassr and their fierce rivals, Al-Hilal, at the top of the Saudi Pro League standings. Ronaldo had a disallowed goal for an alleged offside, which went unreviewed by VAR.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic broke the deadlock for the league leaders with a 64th-minute header from Saud Abdulhamid’s cross. Aleksandar Mitrovic secured the victory with a late brace, bringing Al-Hilal seven points ahead of Al-Nassr after 15 games into the season.
Despite Al-Hilal’s success, the match ended on a sour note as defender Ali Al-Bulayhi was sent off in injury time. With this crucial win, Al-Hilal reached 41 points at the top of the standings, while Al-Nassr held second place with 34 points.
The football legends Ronaldo and Messi are set to face each other again in Saudi Arabia in February next year. Their most recent encounter was in January when Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain defeated Riyadh All-Stars XI 5-4 in the Kingdom. Many believe this could be the final meeting between Messi and Ronaldo on the pitch as they approach the twilight of their illustrious careers on different continents.
Ronaldo is scheduled to face Messi’s Inter Miami in a pre-season friendly match titled “The Last Dance,” paying homage to their potential final clash on the football pitch, ahead of the 2024 Major League Soccer season.
