Shoaib Malik Emerged as Karachi’s Key Performer in Sunday’s Match, Notching 54 Runs off 35 Balls
Veteran cricketer Abdul Razzak expressed dissatisfaction with his ex-teammate and current Karachi Kings player, Shoaib Malik, for his lackluster performance in the team’s inaugural match against Multan Sultans in the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Razzak’s critique of the all-rounder came following the Sultans’ dominant 55-run victory over the Kings at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Razzak, who has shared the field with Malik throughout his international cricket career, expressed his opinion that the all-rounder’s performance seemed more self-oriented rather than team-oriented.
“A true player prioritizes the team over individual achievements,” remarked the former cricketer during an appearance on the Geo News program ‘Harna Mana Hai’.
Malik is currently representing the Kings in the latest edition of the league, which kicked off with their first match of the ongoing season.
Despite being the standout performer, tallying 54 runs off 35 balls, Malik’s efforts couldn’t secure victory for his team. The Sultans’ bowlers effectively contained the Kings to 130/8 while defending their target of 186 runs.
During the Kings’ innings, Malik partnered with his captain Shan Masood to begin a recovery for their side, adding 52 runs for the third wicket. However, Masood was dismissed by Usama Mir in the ninth over.
Following the captain’s departure, Malik formed a partnership with Mohammad Nawaz, contributing 37 runs. Yet, Abbas struck back and dismissed Malik, who ended up as the top-scorer for the Kings with 53 runs off 35 deliveries, including five boundaries and two sixes.
Aware of the mounting run rate required, Malik accelerated, hitting a six and two boundaries off deliveries by Iftikhar Ahmed in the 12th over. He reached his 50th run in the 13th over with a cover drive off Abbas Afridi but was subsequently dismissed by the Sultans’ bowler.
