Holly Willoughby faces a significant setback in her career just one month after returning to television.
Just a month after her TV comeback, Holly Willoughby’s hosting role could be in jeopardy.
On ‘Dancing on Ice,’ where Willoughby co-hosts with Stephen Mulhern, there’s speculation about judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean retiring from their skating duties.
As the show’s ratings continue to decline compared to previous years, its future appears uncertain.
According to a source cited by The Mirror, “Dancing on Ice faces an uncertain future. The ratings are low for a big weekend show, and without Torvill and Dean putting in their performances, this could be the end of the road.”
The insider emphasized that the show is “an incredibly expensive show to make. It only works if it gets a big audience.”
While Torvill and Dean had previously stated their intention to return as judges in 2025, there are indications that this might be their final season in that role. The duo celebrated the 40th anniversary of their Olympic win in Sarajevo by announcing their retirement from performing together.
If the judges were to step down, it could further impact the ratings, which have dropped to 2.9 million, the lowest yet for a show that once garnered 12 million viewers per episode.
In addition to the salaries of Willoughby, Mulhern, and the judges, the show also incurs significant costs in paying substantial sums to the 12 celebrity contestants. Therefore, maintaining higher ratings is crucial for the show’s sustainability.
