Emma Stone came close to turning down the opportunity to star in the Oscar-winning film 'Poor Things'
Emma Stone disclosed that she initially hesitated to accept the role of Bella in ‘Poor Things’.
Emma Stone recently discussed her portrayal of her character in Poor Things, acknowledging that she nearly turned down the role due to the presence of an intimacy coordinator.
During an interview with David Bianculli on Fresh Air, a radio program and podcast on American National Public Radio (NPR), Emma confessed that she initially hesitated to accept the offer but ultimately found herself ‘loving’ the experience.
Recalling her experience with the professional on set, the Academy Award-winning actress reflected, “I felt somewhat embarrassed initially, thinking that such a situation wouldn’t be necessary… But having her there felt like having both a safety net and a choreographer, someone to guide me through.”
“And, you know, she and I would exchange texts after a day of filming these scenes, discussing our feelings and experiences. It formed this incredibly meaningful relationship,” the actress enthused.
At 35 years old, the actress also discussed the decision to bring a coordinator on board, mentioning her previous collaborations with director Yorgos Lanthimos.
“I did consider the familiarity of working with Yorgos before. I felt very comfortable with him,” Stone admitted.
She continued, “The DP – Robbie Ryan – and I had worked together on ‘The Favourite’, so I felt at ease with him. Our first AD is an incredible woman named Hayley, and our focus puller is also a woman. I felt confident in this environment. These people are my friends, and I know them well.”
It’s worth noting that her decision to take on the role in ‘Poor Things’ ultimately led to her winning the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
