Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry, reflects on experiences of ‘bullying’ during her pregnancies.
Meghan Markle continues to grapple with the online ‘abuse’ she endured during vulnerable periods. According to Harry’s wife, the bulk of the cyberbullying occurred during her pregnancies or shortly after giving birth.
“At a SXSW panel on Friday, the 42-year-old Suits star disclosed, ‘The bulk of the bullying and the abuse that I was experiencing in social media and online was when I was pregnant — with Archie and with Lili — and with a newborn with each of them.’
The Duchess of Sussex participated in discussions about online trolling alongside Brooke Shields, Katie Couric, and author and sociologist Nancy Wang Yuen.
Addressing the audience and her husband, Prince Harry, Markle urged them to ‘wrap [their heads] around why people would be so hateful.’ She emphasized, ‘It’s not catty, it’s cruel. Why you would do that?’
In May 2019, while still a working member of the royal family, Markle gave birth to Prince Archie. Two years later, after stepping down from their royal duties and relocating to California, she welcomed Princess Lilibet.
This isn’t the first time Markle has opened up about facing online hate. During her and Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, she revealed considering suicide.”
