Messi was granted rest due to a right hamstring injury.
Lionel Messi, the celebrated star of Inter Miami, was unable to participate in the recent match against D.C. United. He remained at his South Florida residence due to injury.
Meanwhile, Luis Suárez, the 37-year-old striker from Uruguay and Messi’s compatriot in Major League Soccer, captivated spectators with his outstanding performance on the field Saturday afternoon at Audi Field.
Within just 23 minutes of stepping onto the field, Luis Suarez scored two goals, propelling Inter Miami to a commanding 3-1 victory.
Entering the game as a substitute in the 62nd minute, Suarez wasted no time in making an impact, finding the back of the net within a mere ten minutes of his appearance. He further solidified his team’s lead with another goal in the 85th minute, securing Inter Miami’s triumph.
Inter Miami coach Tata Martino praised Suarez’s pivotal contribution, stating, “He had about 30 minutes in the game, and he defined the game.” Suarez continues to showcase exceptional form in MLS, boasting six goals and five assists in seven games across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi was sidelined due to a right hamstring injury, preventing him from participating after his second match of the 2024 MLS season.
With two upcoming fixtures for Argentina later in the month, Martino emphasized the significance of prioritizing Messi’s fitness to ensure his availability for Inter Miami’s Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinal clash against Monterrey from LIGA MX in early April.
“We’ll continuously evaluate his progress. The goal is for him to be ready to play in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup,” Martino explained, highlighting the cautious approach towards Messi’s recovery. “We don’t want to take any risks.”
